Website Creation Steps
Website Creation Steps – Carrying on from last weeks post I get down into the initial discussions Mark Jones and I had on this Joint Venture to prepare for our first meeting. We of course are further along than the writings in our blogs and I have purchased the domain name and do have the site online as I work to ensure that the site looks and works like we want it to. You can view the sites as we work on it and you can see many of the changes we make when we make them. Check it out at Mark Jones Music Lesson’s. I’ve decided on the colors and build the header for the looks. I’ve also build a child them and tweaked the header size and got rid of the extra space above the header. I still need to get rid of the gray line above the header. Be sure to take notes and build a cheat sheet of your own Website Creation Steps.
Meeting with the Client
Website Creation Steps – I was getting away from my normal website business stuff by taking a 3 week trip from my Virginia home in Spotsylvania (Civil War “Battle of Chancellorsville” area, just west of Fredericksburg) to the City of Harrison, Arkansas where we bought a log home just north of town for our retirement. I was painting inside the house during unpleasant weather days and doing yard work and chores outside on good weather days.
Mark Jones Music Lessons – Follow along with us as we build the site.
One evening I got together for dinner with Mark (wild, boys night out). We went to a barbeque place where they have REALLY GOOD FOOD and beer of course. During dinner Mark brought up the idea that he would like to do video training for Claw-Hammer (Frail) Style Banjo. This is the style that his dad had made famous over so many years in the entertainment business and the same style that his daddy taught him beginning at around 5 years of age. Needless to say Mark can really play the banjo (several styles), guitar, bass guitar, dobro; you get the idea, VERY talented.
Talking Points for Future Discussion
Website Creation Steps – We made some basic decisions on the direction we should take and general plans for Mark to come up with an outline that includes what content will be included in the training (which he had already begun). I was going to investigate keywords and see how they worked with his current site or if we should build a new site. I was going to start putting together a “To Do List” that we could review during our meetings and share over the internet with each other so we can keep track of things and take notes of everything. Then we set a date for the following Saturday morning to go over what we came up with and see about what our next steps should be.
I am the type of person who tries to think of all the things we need to do to get an end result. Many times when I do my lists I have further questions to be discussed and decisions to be made. I think this is a valuable mode of operation to prevent problems when we begin to pull all of the processes together into one project. Very seldom do you both have an understanding of what is needed.
The Next Post in this series will cover the “First Business Meeting” and “More Meetings”….and ya’ll thought this stuff was easy. lol. No body really “Likes” business meetings, but Mark and I are close enough that we don’t have to be politically correct so we can get a lot of work done in a very short time. We are up front about everything and there are no false expectations. I know every client wants to hear that exactly what they want is no problem and at least some of what they want is easy enough. However, telling a client that you promise them the moon and they will make a lot of money with their site is a possibility but no guarantee for sure. It take a lot of time and effort to make money on line.
