Plugins that All WordPress Sites Should Use

Plugins are an important part of how Word Press operates.  Each plugin contains coded script that handles specific tasks that a user wants to apply to their site.  Plugins handle a wide variety of tasks from very a simple button to an entire e-commerce online store complete with all the bells and whistles.

Plugins are free in the Word Press Library.  Some offer upgrades to a more capable (more options) version.  There are also plugins for sale on-line that can accomplish very specific tasks.  So if the free ones work, great!  But if you need more specific tasks, you can buy a canned plugin or have one made for your site.

Used by millions, Akismet is quite possibly the best way in the world to protect your blog from comment and trackback spam.  It keeps your site protected from spam even while you sleep.

All In One SEO

Out-of-the-box SEO for your WordPress blog.  This has a wide variety of options for site SEO and allows you to add specific titles, keywords and phrases to each post or page.

Blog Protector

Protects Your Valuable Blog Content As Well As Images From Being Copied.  Does not allow visitors to highlight and copy anything from the site and actually has a warning that pops up indicating that they have no right to copy from the site.

Cbnet Press Ping Optimizer

Plugin includes a large number of ping addresses (WordPress comes with one site only).  It will also save your WordPress blog from getting tagged as ping spammer by not pinging every time you change/modify your posts.

Efficient Related Posts

A related posts plugin that works quickly even with thousands of posts and tags.  Based on you categories and tags from your posts, the program will list several other posts that are related to the current post for visitors to check out.

FaceBook Share (New)

Adds a button which allows you to share post links and also shows the number of times the post or page has been shared throughout the Facebook just like tweetmeme button does for twitter. If you do not like the looks of this plugin, or it does not work with your theme, there are several plugins to choose from.

Google Analyticator

Adds the necessary JavaScript code to enable Google’s Analytics. After enabling this plugin visit the settings page and enter your Google Analytics’ UID and enable logging.  It also creates a widget on your dashboard page for a quick review of visitor stats.

Google XML Sitemaps

This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and to better index your blog.

WordPress Database Backup

On-demand backup of your WordPress database.  Backup with a click of a button or schedule backups to the server or emailed to your address.

There is a huge amount of plugins for WordPress on the internet.  But this list is a short list of must have plugins for any site.  As I indicated before, if you have specific tasks that you are looking to have accomplished, there are probably several for your review.

Take advantage of these scripts to make building your site as easy as possible.  Having built websites since the early days, I can tell you that even the simple plugins contain hours of coding and testing.  It is to your advantage to select and install these plugins in only a few minutes.

  • What Can You Achieve in 30, 60, & 90 Minutes?
When I ask my clients where they found the biggest benefit in my How to Use a Calendar program, they often reply: “Scheduling for 30, 60, or 90 minutes.” It’s tempting to block off a massive chunk of time for a big project. Whether that massive chunk of time is a an afternoon, a day, […]

Neal Conan: “You had solar panels (on your sailboat) for electricity.” Matt Rutherford: “I did, but they broke.” Neal: “They broke?” Matt: “One by one.” Neal: “I think you had a Kindle for reading books.” Matt: “I did. It broke in a storm.” I like Matt’s story for all that it tells as about our […]
